We can be Caleb Strong!

But what does that mean?

I gave the invocation at our Emanuel Faith Community Church graduation ceremony for Men’s Fraternity: The Great Adventure last night.

In preparing for this talk, I reviewed “Caleb’s Prayer”,  a prayer that has been around for a few years in the Men’s Frat community. I have seen it published a few times, like at Warrior’s Hand  and on the Alameda Church of Christ site. I used this as a basis for my talk for the men. Is ignorance communicable?

I was reading another blogger’s comments and I became incensed at one ignorant person’s comment on the existence of Adam and Eve :

“it’s not real. btw…this is how wars start. kind of funny if you think about it.”

Now first of all. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and be WRONG, but it wasn’t the “not real” comment that threw me. It’s the second part. In a strong effort to avoid a flame war on someone else’s blog I tried to be civil. Additionally, I am instructed in wisdom.

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

For our family and Grandpa O.

My Grandfather, Joe Owen, passed this afternoon. He was my dad’s dad. Now I am down to one Grandfather, a sign I am getting older. I understand the way things work and that all things are made to work for God’s plan and glory. I was also not surprised by his passing. It happens when we age and mature that our elders will hand off the baton as it were to the next generation. I feel great sorrow for my family though. My Grandma, Dad, aunt, uncle and cousins who will be there to comfort each other.
