Who is in control?

In my morning quiet time, I came upon this passage.

Then Job answered the LORD and said,  “I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted. ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge ?’ “Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.” Hear, now, and I will speak ; I will ask You, and You instruct me.’ “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear ; But now my eye sees You; Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes.”- Job 42:1-6

As I read these words, they spoke to me and I fealt compelled to remind all of us (including myself) that we serve the great God who created and knows all things. In the presence of His goodness and power, do we remember to submit ourselves to His knowledge and authority, as Job does? Can we admit our lack of understanding and comparable frailty?

I know that I am who I am, only because God is who He is. If not for Him than I would be dead in my sin, powerless, without talent, knowledge or skill. We all fall short of His standard. It is not I, who is pure or holy, but the spirit that dwells in me and presents me a clean and holy person to the Lord Our God.

It is not I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me…” Galatians 2:20

So this morning I ask you that question… Who is in control? Who has the steering wheel? Are you trying, in your own strength, to live a good and honorable life? Are you, in your own strength, still struggling with your addictions to drugs, porn, gambling, alcohol, food or whatever other desires of the flesh take hold?

We cannot continue to try to take the wheel! There is no requirement for us to be perfect before Jesus. In fact the opposite is true!

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:6-8

We are called to come as we are to be healed, cleansed, forgiven and unconditionally loved. I am a follower, and believer in Jesus the Christ. I have put Him in control and I live my days trying to do more to be like Jesus. With that, I can honestly read and accept this last verse.

For my life is in The Messiah, and if I shall die, it is gain for me. Philippians 1:21

May Jesus have His way with your day
