A Strong Launch

First, a little back story:

CalebStrong.org (CS) began as a Men’s Fraternity group that simply kept meeting after the three seasons. We explored Apologetics, Biblical history, and Strength of Character, as found in the example given in the Books found in the Bible, like Joshua, Daniel, and many others.

For a season, the Lord put it on my heart to mentor other men. As I did so, I began writing and speaking, and started to dream of the CalebStrong curriculum. I became involved (and thus distracted) by another good work. This work was an idea for a ministry called Redeemed-N-Delivered(RnD). I am driving toward a new goal. I’m on a mission to save kids and I need your help. Our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital treats thousands of children each year, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. These kids are facing scary stuff like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and injuries from accidents we don’t even want to imagine.

Switching Roles for our “not so little” man

This week, our little man, became a bit less little.

He turned 13 this week. This is a milestone in a young man’s life.
I remember, that at the age of 13, I was allowed to:

  • first shoot a rifle,
  • own my own pocket knife,
  • ride my bike to friend’s houses,
  • use the phone to call friends.

These are various freedoms we take for granted as an adult, but as a young man, these were all steps of responsibility and freedom.

Like me, Our son will gain new responsibilities and privileges:

  • open ( but still monitored) access to the internet,
  • his own email address,

When words are not enough…

I had a pretty important exchange with my boy today.

It was prompted by an evening spent in frustration, the night before, as he tried to cram a weeks worth of homework into a four hour span. This, despite my warnings during the week. He and I had discussed and agreed that this work was to be completed before bedtime Friday evening (10:30 this particular Friday, since there wasn’t anywhere to be in the morning). We looked at how much work he had left from his summer break and he determined he definitely had enough time in the next 5 days to complete it all.
