Difficult Questions: One God

Why Difficult Questions?

In the course of teaching or writing, I am asked questions that many of us find hard to answer. Sometimes, it is because we haven’t yet learned the answers the Bible has for these questions. More often the answer, while biblical and accurate, it is not culturally accepted, so giving the answer is uncomfortable. I will be addressing some of these questions under the key words ” Difficult Questions”.  Today’s Difficult Question:  Isn’t the belief of One True God, arrogance?

Isn’t the belief of One True God, arrogance?

I love and accept others, as Christ loved and accepted me. I love my friends that are non-believers as much as those that believe. There will come a time, where their love and “goodness” is not enough. I accept them and I love them in whatever stage of life they live. But I am deeply grieved and worried for those that refuse to hear, let alone believe. I am grieved because there IS only the one way to God. There IS only one path.

Some call this arrogance, and if it is arrogance, it is not MY arrogance.

One path, one God.

Our God made it clear to us in the scriptures that there was only one path:
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.'” (John 14: 6)

Jesus also made his Divinity clear when He said:
“I and the Father are one. (John 10:30)”
and
“He who has seen Me has seen the Father… (John 14:9)”

This path was provided by God the Father.

What is more, this path was a sacrifice of LOVE, where Jesus took the mantle and power of God off, in order to become a man.

  • Jesus stepped down from the throne.
  • By accepting human form, He allowed himself to be tempted, and tried as a man.
  • In taking a mortal shell, He allowed himself to suffer, to be beaten by the hands of men.
  • Because he desired to be with us so completely, He allowed himself to DIE.

Is this ignorance?

So I ask, how is that arrogance? How is renouncing rank and power in order to give oneself over to death for the sake of those who do not yet believe, anything less than love and complete humility?

It is a love so incoherently and amazingly pure that we still, to this day, have a most difficult time accepting and believing in it.

This was a ransom that no one else could pay, and He paid it. Jesus fully paid the price for our sin and impurity fully. We are covered by His sacrifice.

The Take Away:

This is not arrogance. This is a humble, yet great, invitation so honest, so open and so sincere that we owe it to ourselves to explore it and just maybe accept it.

That is what convicts my heart today. If I let it, (and I will) these words will make me a better leader, a better husband and a better father. And maybe, if you let it, these words can help you too.
May Jesus have His way with your day
